Academic Overview
Since 1980, the Intensive Spanish Program has helped students progress rapidly in their Spanish language proficiency at any level. Students are completely immersed in the culture and language during their stay at Universidad Internacional. The Intensive Spanish Program consists of 3 modules.
- Intensive Spanish Language Class (3 hrs.) After taking a brief entrance exam and oral interview with a Spanish professor, students are placed in small groups according to their previous level of Spanish fluency, their ability to communicate, and their interests. No more than 5 students are assigned to a professor. This guarantees that students receive the attention they need and encourages interaction among the group. This class focuses on 4 main skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
- Latin American or Grammar Courses (2 hrs.) Students may choose from an assortment of classes in the following areas of study: Art, Business, Education, History, Latin-American Studies, Linguistics, Literature, Political Science, Psychology, Religion, and Spanish grammar.
- Cultural Lectures, Idiomatic Expressions or Conversation (1 hr.) This component is designed to improve students' listening and conversational Spanish Language skills and cultural awareness by corrected discussions on topics like holidays, festivities, and family life. Students are encouraged to compare and contrast their own culture with their experiences in Mexico. Students are taught idiomatic expressions that will help them interact and better understand the culture in which they are immersed.
Location
Universidad Internacional is located in Cuernevaca, Mexico. Cuernevaca is approximately 50 miles south of Mexico City. The Center for Linguistic and Multicultural Studies at Universidad Internacional is home to one of the most beautiful campuses in Latin America. Its walkways are lined with trees filled with a bounty of tropical fruits and flowers, spectacular pools, and lovely fountains which all contribute to a truly unique learning environment.
Housing
Students are placed with Mexican host families as a means to improve their Spanish proficiency and enhance their understanding of Mexican culture. There are three types of housing options available, all of which include 3 meals per day as well as daily transportation to and from school.
- Executive Plan: private room and bathroom in a spacious home. Homes typically have a garden and pool as well as other amenities. Cost is $36 to $60 per night.
- Plan A Superior: private room and shared bathroom with another student of the same gender in a mid-sized home with or without a garden, includes Wi-Fi. Cost is $26 per night.
- Plan B Standard: shared bedroom and bath with another student of the same gender, includes Wi-Fi. Cost is $21 per night.
