Academic Overview
Established in 1451, the University of Glasgow is one of the UK's oldest and most prestigious seats of learning, recognized internationally for its groundbreaking work.  Recently the University was listed among the world's top one percent of universities by the QS World Rankings 2011.  The University of Glasgow has more than 16,500 undergraduates and 5,000 postgraduates.  Students from more than 100 countries around the globe study on campus.  The University of Glasgow has four colleges:  College of Arts, College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences, College of Science and Engineering and College of Social Sciences.  One of the unique features of the Study Abroad program at the University is the flexibility of combining classes from across all four colleges (dependent upon pre-requisites being met and scheduling issues).  A full course load is worth 60 Glasgow credits which is equivalent to 15 Augustana credits.  Most Level 1 and Level 2 classes (first and second year) are worth 20 Glasgow credits.  At Level 3 and 4 (third and fourth year), they can be worth anything from 10-60 credits.  A full load normally means taking about 3-4 classes per semester.  You can view the list of classes in the undergraduate course catalog.  Students can also select art courses at the Glasgow School of Art and a bagpipe course at the National Piping Center.

Augustana is a member of the Principia Consortium, a group of some 20 honors programs at similar institutions working with the University of Glasgow.  Civitas students can join their counterparts from other colleges in a semester-long honors program in Glasgow that includes an interdisciplinary course on the Scottish Enlightenment (which can be applied to Civitas 202, 203 or 204) and two or three courses in their fields of interest.

Location
The University of Glasgow has a stunning campus in the west end of Glasgow, one of Europe's liveliest cities with a vibrant social scene, great shopping, thriving venues and international festivals.  The University's compact main campus combines grand historical buildings with state-of-the-art facilities.  It is centered on a neo-gothic building with a spire offering breathtaking views across the city. The University is next to Scotland's most visited attraction, the Kelingrove Art Gallery and Museum.  It is a great place to live and stuy.  Glasgow's exceptional location makes it easy to access Scotland's amazing landscape and coastlines with Loch Lomond and the Trossachs just 40 minutes away.  Closer to home, the city has over 80 beautiful parks.  Glasgow boasts one of the liveliest music scenes outside of London.  The city hosts many music festivals and has been named a UNESCO City of Music.  Sport is also an important part of life in the city as Glasgow has been named host for the 2014 Commonwealth Games

Housing
Most housing accommodations are located in self-catered apartments, meaning that you are responsible for cooking your own meals in a fully equipped kitchen.  Most apartments are located within walking distance of the University.    Once you have been notified of your acceptance by the University of Glasgow and you have accepted that offer, you may apply for accommodation.  Augustana students are advised NOT to select Wolfson Hall.  While it may be attractive because it has a meal plan while all of the other housing is self-catered, it is very far from the main campus and it has very restrictive hours for meals.

Costs
Consult the Study Abroad Fees section of the University of Glasgow website for updated tuition fees and estimated living costs. Please also see the Costs and Finances section of Augustana's StudioAbroad site for further details.  To request a cost estimate, click on Request Advising above.
